Popularity is just another thing in school that some students would do anything to achieve. There is only one true way to be the big person on campus; be you. Sometimes people think that just because you have a connection with the big man on campus, that you’re automatically popular. For example: if you are dating the big man, related to the big man, or best friends with the big man.

            In other words, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Everyone is popular in their own special way. Don’t seek to be popular; as long as you have friends, you’re already popular. People such as students of JROTC, Theatre, Band and Guard are most likely to be well known throughout their entire organizations. Students doing track, soccer, basketball, tennis and football are most likely to be well known throughout the entire team.

            Popularity is just another word for existing in school and having many friends. In layman’s terms, there really is no such thing as popularity. Even celebrities such as George Lopez, Ben Affleck, Jackie Chan and even Justin Timberlake weren’t as popular in high school as they are right now. If you picture yourself as a popular person, then you are popular. If you have friends, then you are popular. If you are yourself and don’t care about what other people think of you, then you are popular. Homecoming royalty will get some good publicity from the school and get recognized for their existence, but that doesn’t automatically make them popular.

            The search for popularity can also change a person. It could make them shallow and only care about their appearances, such as hanging out with the coolest students, wearing the coolest clothes and even make them think that everything in the world revolves around them. Like I said, don’t search for popularity.
