On April 28, various buses decorated with famous Disney movie names such as “Monsters Inc.” and “101 Dalmatians” drove away from Felix Varela toward Orlando.

The bus ride was roughly 6 hours including stops, yet graduating seniors did not notice the bus ride or the hours, but the quick realization that this would be the last trip they would take together.

At around 9 pm, the buses arrived at Disney World carrying cheering seniors eager to get out of their seats and invade Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.

Any spectator would have seen, amidst the shining lights and the florescent fireworks, the thousands of seniors cheering.

Grad Nite, besides prom, is one of the most exciting school trips that there is. Apart from the various amusement park rides available to just seniors, Grand Nite offered great concert performances from big names like Fall Out Boy and Frankie J, and let’s not forget to mention the various DJ’s that were available throughout the park for dancing and fun.

“Grad Nite was pretty good, the performances were great and the rides were excellent,” said senior Ryan Morejon.

“Grad Nite was an experience that was unforgettable,” said senior Jessica Gonzalez, “we could never go to that moment again so I made sure that I enjoyed everything.”

After the excitement for Grad Nite was finally over, prom arrived. Saturday May 13, was a night to be remembered.

Amid the rushing of all Varela seniors who were attending the prom, the decorating crew was fixing the Hyatt Regency ballroom in order to make the prom “A Red Carpet Affair” ready for its stars.

At exactly 7:30 pm, the Hyatt’s ballroom held a colorful array of prom dresses mixed with a sea of black and white tuxes.

Couples or singles were looking at each other and the compliments flooded the room where everyone stopped becoming groups and became a senior class instead.

“I saw people I hadn’t seen in years and talked to them. At prom, it was just the spirit of everyone being together that counted,” said senior Alexandra Friz.

The food consisted of a buffet that was there for most of the night, so students who got to the prom late could still enjoy the warm pasta or chicken that decorated the back of the ballroom.

The music was hosted by Power96, which played a variety ranging from Salsa to Hip-Hop.

Finally toward the end of the night, they announced the prom queen and king. The excitement grew as the envelope was read and Miguel Mendoza and Tuly Gonzalez were crowned.

“I think the dance went by so fast! It is amazing how fast it went,” said senior Klaudia Pereira.
