Leading this year’s softball team are three seniors, Hillary Barrow, Lyndsay Mesh, and Cindy Castrillon. With all the hard work put in, Hillary and Lyndsay, are being recruited by Syracuse University. Other seniors contributing to the team include Michelle Ramirez, Tina Diaz, and Jennifer Airado. Players to look for in the near future are Nicole Sanchez, Jennifer Sanchez, Carla Velazquez, and Shenique Rosario.

In the pre-season, the lady vipers obtained a winning season of 2-0. With this in mind, they continue to have a winning season with a current record of 10-5. The Vipers have fallen short in games against Palmetto (twice), Southridge, Killian, Parkland, and Douglas. However, they have retaliated and beaten Killian and Southridge, as well as Coral Reef, Homestead, South Dade, Nassau, La Belle, and Belview.

With wins against some of the main rivals in our districts such as Palmetto, Southridge, Killian and basically the whole district this year, the softball team has high hopes for the outcome of the season. They Participated in the Slam Fest tournament which is a local tournament facing some of the best teams in the state. They defeated the number one team in the state (3A Nassau), the number 5 team in the state (4A Belview) and the number 7 team (4A La Belle) and managed to come out third overall.

Things that the Lady Vipers are working on are hitting in key situations while they’re strongly backed up by their defense. “We started off slow and people doubted us but now we’re coming back to prove them wrong,” said junior Tabatha Vellojin. The softball team has a good shot on winning districts. The Kissimmee Klassic took place March 30- April 1. It consisted of 48 teams invited to play. “I think we’re playing some of the best softball in the county right now and the Lady Vipers have a real good chance on coming out on top,” said Coach Steve Batten.
