It is official, the class of 2007 are now considered upperclassmen. On December 6, at 7 pm, the juniors entered the gym with one thing on their minds, their junior rings. Proud family members and friends filled the gym waiting to see their loved ones receive their rings.

“Receiving my ring felt like a right of passage,” said junior Mxali Davidson. “I feel like we are almost there, just about one more year and we are out.”

Mr. Oehm and Ms. Allen, junior class sponsors, were present as well as our very own Cuban mother, Ms. Fornell, clearly proving that she hasn’t forgotten about the juniors.

Now we can look forward to the class of 2007 flaunting their rings everywhere, showing their rings to anyone with eyes, and blinding us with their rings’ brilliancy.

With each ring came a 2007 sign in card. According to tradition, turning the ring towards the little finger brings good fortune. The ring must be turned 100 times plus the year of graduation. So class of 2007 students should have it turned 107 times.

The last turn is reserved for someone special and it is to be turned in the opposite direction, toward the heart, to lock in the good luck.

“At first I was reluctant to buy the ring because it was so expensive, but then I started to pay for it and all I wanted to do was get it. Then the night finally came, and I got all dressed up and then I received the ring and it was all over from there because I couldn’t speak. I was ecstatic,” said junior Jessica Crockett.

As the juniors took their first step through the ring, they exited the life of a lower classman and took one step closer to real life.
