Fox’s hit Television series “American Idol” is beginning to see a few flaws in their system, or rather, in a judge. Paula Abdul, a judge for the show, is now being accused of having a relationship with a former contestant, unlike any other relationship with other contestants. Corey Clark, a contestant from season two, who at the time was 22, claims that Paula Abdul, at the time age 40, cared for him with special treatment.

He continued to say that she helped him with tips for songs, private lessons, and even hairstyles and clothing tips. According to Clark, Abdul even gave him her special prescription cough medicine in order to help his singing. He also claims that he had an off-camera relationship with her, which began platonically, yet quickly became sexual.

Clark’s parents, Jan and Duane Clark, are also accusing Abdul, saying that at the time, she would call their house looking for him and they began to show concern. They warned their son not to get involved with a judge.

They are proud of their son, saying that he is telling the truth like he always does, whether it will stir up controversy or not.

During the “Primetime Live” special, where Clark appeared to discuss the case, there was proof enough that the relationship occurred. They played the voicemails left by Paula on his cell phone, which could prove that he is not lying.

The case is being seriously looked into but many believe that this is another one of Clark’s attempts at publicity and “stardom.” Clark has a criminal past, which explains why he was disqualified from the competition; he failed to notify the producers of the domestic dispute he had with his sister in October of 2002. Producers are puzzled as to what to do, because if he could lie about his past to get onto the show, he could similarly lie about this relationship just for the publicity.

As to the whole controversy, Fox and “American Idol” said, “Regardless, we are absolutely committed to the fairness of this competition. We take any accusations of this nature very seriously, no matter their source, and we have already begun looking into them.”
