Endia Coleman

Senior Endia Coleman may be best known as the funny girl on Varela’s morning announcements and has interviewed dozens of people on a variety of topics. She is also seen anchoring on WVHS News from time to time.

But it seems that Coleman views journalism as more of a hobby rather than a serious career path. What people don’t know is that she wishes to pursue a career in the culinary arts.

"Ever since eighth grade I’ve always loved baking," Coleman said. "I found myself watching culinary shows on TV. I dream of moving up to New York because they offer the best culinary programs up there."

The Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) is one New York school in particular that Coleman has her eye on. She also admits that she loves to sing and act. Although she may only sing in the shower at the moment, singing seems to bring her happiness.

She looks up to her sister who is a Varela alumni.

"She faced a lot in her life," Coleman said. "My sister is a really good student. She went to Spelman College and she is looking to go to Law School next year. I think she’s incredible."

When asked where she would like to be in ten years, she responded in a clear and specific manner.

"I see myself living in Boston and opening up a bakery shop. I’ll probably be married and drive a Mini Cooper or an ecofriendly car. My house has to have a beautiful garden and a back yard."

As is true with most people in the world, Coleman recalls a sad memory in her life. The death of her dog caused Coleman really affected her, and cause her to see the world differently. "I really did love her a lot. She was something special and meaningful to me," when asked about the experience of her dog dying.

On a more positive note, Coleman is ready to move on into the real world. She conveyed an eagerness to eventually walk across the graduation stage and receive her diploma. Coleman is even looking forward to this year’s Grad Bash despite the fact that she isn’t fond of rollercoasters that are present at the parks..

She enjoys her English class taught by Ms. Lara Bukens.

"I learned so much in her and I love the way she teaches; her class has been amazing these past months," said Coleman.

Bukens describes Colman as one of her most interesting students.

"Endia is a great student," Bukens said. "She is very enthusiastic. I enjoy watching her on the announcements in the morning. In class I can’t get her to be quiet - which is a great thing because she always has a comedic view of whatever it is I’m teaching. She’s pretty much right on the money."

Coleman has a bright future ahead of her. She will continue to pursue her passions and love the world around her.

"Treat the world kindly, you know, plant more trees and be one with Mother Nature," she said.
