“Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all the time thing. You don’t win once in a while; you don’t do things right once in a while; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit. There is no room for 2nd place.”

This is a quote from the great NFL coach Vince Lombardi that Coach Polo has been trying to instill in his young Boys Soccer team this 2004-2005 season.

If the team can build on last year’s success, they may not have a problem winning because last year the team ended their season with an outstanding 17-5-3 record and reached the regional finals. This year the Miami Herald’s pre-season ranking for High School soccer teams in Miami showed the boy’s soccer team ranked 5th in the county.

Some of the top players on this year’s team are juniors Alan Sanchez, Carlos Cuervo, Luis Ramos, sophomore Shawn Chin and freshman Luiz F. Yamashita.



Coach Polo said “the key to this team’s success will be playing with heart and playing as a team.”

This young team will have to prove themselves quickly as they will have some tough games entering the season.

The first game of the season will be against Coral Reef, who is ranked 3rd in the county, and they will have to face American in the second game of the season, who is ranked 4th is the county.

They will also have to face off against rivals Sunset twice this year; Sunset is coming off a year where they not only won the state championship but were crowned National Champions.

Junior Alan Sanchez told us, “I think that the fact that we will have to face off against Coral Reef and American early will be a good thing for us, it will be helpful in that those games will prepare us for the games against Sunset.

We know that we’re going to have to go into the game against Sunset as it if were any other game, we have to play our hearts out and leave everything on the field.”
