Many students at Varela want to pursue a career of their hobby. It varies from maybe our drama students becoming future actors or actresses, our vet academy students becoming prestigious veterinarians or maybe our athletic department kids becoming famous pro star players.

For junior Christian Marianecci, the one hobby he would like to pursue as a career would be in culinary arts. The passion started in his elementary years.

“Well I really liked drawing the usual elementary things such as little characters, and most people said I was pretty good, so it kept me going,” said Marianecci.

As years kept going, his flow of art kept him inspired over building something more of it.

Originally, Marianecci planned on attending Florida International University to become a curator, which is a person who is basically in charge of a museum. They decide which art piece goes into the gallery and they must make sure whichever artist decides to put in their work into the museum, their work must be authentic.

“It’s a very hard job and you have to know a lot about art work and if the artist is copying any other artist out there,” said Marianecci.

Additional to his artistic works he tried out the sport of wrestling from September to January of this year. He enjoyed trying something out of his normal vicinity and said he would definitely look forward to trying out the sport again.

As for his aim to getting into culinary arts, his main objective is to get into Le Cordon Bleu in Miami and learn more about the career. Although he is interested in the arts, culinary is something he just began learning.

“I recently started liking the hobby. I could work the grill, but I want to get into it more and do complex dishes, instead of steaks and cheese burgers,” he said.

Even though he plans on working at a prominent restaurant he still plans on working on what he initially loved doing… his art work.

Marianecci has already sold some of his pieces to friends and people who admire his illustrations.

Overall, Marianecci’s plans for the future are on balancing out what he loves doing most and what he deems on doing as a leisure pursuit.
