Disney’s shift from Magic Kingdom to Hollywood Studios does not sit well with many Class of ‘09 students and teacher chaperones

If you asked seniors whether the approximately 6-hour bus ride to Hollywood Studios for Grad Nite 2009 was worth it, you’d surely get a mixed review.

Varela’s first trip to this particular Disney outlet wasn’t as praised as previous years.

When excited seniors filled the park’s entrance they were temporarily in awe by the decorations, set designs, and little scattered shops.

Some just went straight to look for the rides so that they wouldn’t wait a long line. Most were disappointed to find out there were only three main rides.

‘Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith’ was the major thrill at the Studios with its dark spirally coaster.

‘The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror’ remained the fearful drop and the new ‘Toy Story Midway Mania!’ surprised seniors with its fun interactive 3D adventure.

"I really loved the roller coaster. I wanted to ride it again and again, but the lines were so long," said Amanda Ogura.

Hidden on the complete opposite side of the park were miniature attractions with half the fun like Star Tours, the Great Movie Ride, and the American Idol Experience.

The concerts and performances that were set up in certain streets and venues of Hollywood Studios included performances by Katy Perry, Lloyd, Metro Station, the White Tie Affair, Wynter, and Mishon that seniors got to enjoy.

"I had a good time, it was fun," said Fabrice Desrivieres.

There were also two dance parties that took place in the ‘Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!’ stadium and the ‘Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show’ arena that were crowded with various schools.

These parties include DJs such as DJ Roonie G that played hip-hop and house music for seniors to dance to.

Some said they weren’t as great as parties back in Miami, and some fairly enjoyed it.

Some teachers as well didn’t enjoy Grad Nite 09’s offerings that much although they had full-access fast passes.

"Out of all the years I’ve gone to Grad Nite, this year wasn’t that good," said history teacher Ms. Rachel Socarras.

She even mentioned she had to entertain herself by jumping into everyone’s photo shots.

This trip appealed more to the average partying and concert-seeking teenager.

"I had fun especially because of the people that I was with," said Nicholas Deluca.

Overall the rating to this year’s senior field trip didn’t fulfill its expectations.

"It was alright. Grad Bash would have been better," said Danny Salinas.

Activities director Ms. Felicia Christin already booked 12 buses for next year’s Grad Nite to Magic Kingdom.

"Overall there’s more to do at Magic Kingdom. "Hollywood Studios didn’t realize how much kids love the rides," said Ms. Christin.
