Crashhhh!

The sound resonates through the administrative hallways. Gravity has taken its toll on a precious item. The drama unfolds as Ms. Fornell mourns the departure of “a pretty wonderful cup.” She pays her condolences to the broken container.

But unlike the cup, there have been other more important departures that have gravitated towards success. Most already have heard that Assistant Principal Ed “the gator fan” Smith and Administrative Assistant Art “ID Seller” Smith are sadly, leaving us with two less snakes in the grass.

Art Smith has become an A.P. at Miami Palmetto’s adult school and Ed Smith, the now far-off Viper, has become the principal at Ruben Dario middle school out in Westchester.

Ms. Fornell says she was “very proud of them” and hopes they are well wherever they are.

Ms. Fornell also stated that the new personnel are a “great addition to the school” and she hopes they will have “a very smooth transition into Varela.”

“Well I think it’s a positive move, it shows people are moving up,” says Economics teacher Mr. Manny Ruiz, who is being given Art Smith’s Administrative seat of power.

His tasks will include ID selling, attendance, and disciplinary actions.

However there is a catch to moving on up, and Mr. Ruiz will have to sacrifice his regular and honors classes for the job.

A friendly Mr. Earl Burth a former Homestead Sr. High veteran for 11 years is replacing Ed Smith’s position as an A.P.

“I like it, its different and laid back…I don’t have enough words to express how I feel.”

Although he appeared laid back, he declared that even though he has an “open door policy.” he still has a job to maintain. Other than supervising disciplinary errands he also attends to cafeteria supervision, free and reduced lunch, transportation, fire drills, code red, and is also a part of the safety committee.

Burth hopes to improve test scores and make our learning environment better, and plans to work hard to meet his goals. “I like to see others around me succeed,” he says, and he looks forward to a positive and an enlightening year.

Jorge Nuñez is our new A.P; he is here to save us from overpopulation disorganization. Ms. Fornell feels that “having a 5th A.P. will help with our 4,652 students.”

Mr. Nuñez comes from Jose de Diego Middle School, where he was an A.P. He says “(Varela is) great, the kids are good students, this is a great facility, and (I want to) learn a lot from the administrative staff.”

Yes Varela is quite big when it comes to size, especially when you come from a middle school. Mr. Nuñez says he will do “whatever it takes” to help out.

He looks forward to working with our outrageously huge school, and both Mr. Burth and Mr. Nuñez assist us all in slithering forward to Viper days ahead.
