Need an efficient, cunning, smart protector to save you from harm and fit your budget? Never fear, Drillbit is here!

Coming to theatres, comedic actor Owen Wilson stars as Drillbit Taylor, a down-on-his-luck homeless soldier, or as he likes to call it “home free” existence on the beach.

Three adolescents: Ryan (Troy Gentile), Wade (Nate Hartely), and Emmit (David Dorman) start their first day of high school and eventually become in serious need of rescuing from a psychotic bully named Filkins (Alex Frost).

Before becoming fully engulfed in Filkin’s terror, they seek protection by placing an ad for a bodyguard and their best and cheapest find comes from Drillbit Taylor who places them in physical and mental training with moves such as “The Unexpected Groin Kick,” “The Sissy Rabbit Punch,” and just plain being yourself.

The screenplay for ‘Drillbit’ was written by Seth Rogan who has been very active lately with such hits as ‘Superbad’ and ‘Knocked Up.’ He is also the voice of Hogsqueal in the kids adventure ‘Spiderwick Chronicles’ and will be the voice of Master Mantis in this summer’s ‘Kung Fu Panda.’

In a recent interview with The Viper Vibe, the four young actors were asked if they related with their character personally.

“Well yeah, of course. I mean, I mean, of course and Emmit’s kind of an out there one. And you know – but you know, there’s – I mean, he collects maps, I love maps,” said Dorfman.

“When I was in school I didn’t really get bullied a whole lot. I did in my freshman year though, pretty hard by my brother. My brother was a senior at the time and so him and all his friends kind of ran the school. And me being his younger brother as a freshman didn’t exactly put me in the best position, if you know what I mean,” said Frost.

Working with Owen Wilson however, proved to be an amazing experience for the teen actors.

“Oh, it was an absolute blast. I mean, I had a great pleasure working with him. He’s like been one of my idols for so long and it’s just – it’s such an – like great feeling to get to work with someone you’ve aspired to be just like for so long,” said Hartley.

The film depicts the awkwardness, danger, and constant potential for the life-ruining humiliation that a freshman year in high-school brings. From its opening scene it brings out abundant laughter from the audience although it feels front-loaded. In other words, laughter is abundant at the beginning yet it slows down as the film progresses.

However, Wilson delivers a funny and heartwarming performance and the trio of geeks is played by wonderful actors as well. Within its comedic yet moralistic delivery, Drillbit will be worth your budget money in theatres.
