Sports such as football, basketball and volleyball require a lot of rigorous training and physical capacity and can be an excellent way to improve physical health. Our school teams have a lot of hard training everyday during each season.

Athletes, however, should take caution with the violent moves the sport requires that can lead to terrible consequences afterwards.

According to Mr. Delainy Quintero, Athletic Training Coach, the most common field injuries are in the ankle, wrist and the common sprains. He said that to prevent these types of injuries and maintain health, students should start strengthening during off-season.

Also, it is very important to wear the correct gear and get proper nutrition.

Sometimes the injuries will affect the sport the student is playing and even a small injury can get worse.

Not only is it the athlete’s responsibility to make sure he or she is in good condition, but the coach and trainer are constantly monitoring the players through examination and observation.

“I got tendonitis from a rough movement playing volleyball,” said senior Daniela Blanco.

Tendonitis is an orthopedic condition in which there’s an inflammation of the tendons. When a student requires hospital care, other measures are taken.

According to Coach Quintero, he will immediately refer the student to EMS, emergency medical services or, in a minor case, make a call to the parents to take the pupil home.

Although playing any sport will eventually maintain an excellent physical health, it is important to be constantly checked for any other aspect that should be treated.

The process of exercising and eating right will eventually result in being healthy. Many students don’t realize that by not doing any sport or just basically not exercising, their health is also being affected, because of the body’s need of physical activity.

It is essential now-a-days, to establish a healthier lifestyle due to issues such as obesity that are brought on by a poor physical education.
