When we see something that is wrong and that should not happen we always say to ourselves “How can such a thing happen?” Yet how many of us actually do something about it? How many of us just don’t forget about what we saw 5 minutes after we were horrified by it? Sadly very few of us can say that they actually did something about it.

The world is full of those people who promise to help those in need but never get around to doing it. We need more people who won’t just give any more empty promises and actually get off their sofas and do something about it. For example everyone knows about the genocide and mass killings in Darfur but almost nobody has written a letter to a politician, donated time and/or money, or even prayed for those in Darfur. Even those in need here like the poor and needy don’t receive much help because most of us don’t do anything.

We praise the efforts of those who actually do something like the Amnesty International Club who have spread awareness of Darfur and students who go out and help the local poor with food drives and volunteer work. Even though their efforts are small, their results will be huge because they actually did something about it.

Just because you can’t devote your whole life to the needy or you can’t send yourself to some poor country does not mean you can’t help in any way. You can write a letter to a politician or official, donate money to humanitarian organizations, or spread awareness through flyers and such. Even a small contribution can have a lasting affect on the lives on those you helped. Just ask those who were helped and they will tell you that they are eternally grateful for it.

Everyone needs to read the chorus from Nickelback’s new song called “If Everyone cared:”

If everyone cared and nobody cried

If everyone loved and nobody lied

If everyone shared and swallowed their pride

Then we'd see the day, when nobody died

Remember, almost doing something is just like doing nothing at all. The only way things will improve is if you contribute to the solution. If everybody were to do just one little thing to help those in need, then the whole world would be affected by it and it would be a much better place to live in. Those who have everything and take it for granted should at least help those who have nothing and who only wish for a little better in life.
