Election results compared

Election results between the Nov. 2 general election and the LHS CyberPlainsman Mock Election Oct. 25-26 were compared this week.

Fourteen of the 21 election results of the LHS Mock Election were the same as the general public.

Candidates that won both elections are, Republican George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for President and Vice President of the United States. Republican Barbara Cubin for United States Representative. Republican Phil Nicholas for State Senator District 10. For State Representatives for District 46, Republicans Kermit C. Brown, James J. Slater, and Kevin A. White, the democratic candidate was Jane Warren.

Other candidates also elected in both were, Republican Jerry M. Kennedy for County Commissioner. Dave O’Malley and Joe Shumway for Member of Laramie City Council At-Large. Susan Ibarra, Amy B. Jenkins, Robin Coughlin, and Joyce “Joy” Surdam for Albany County School District No. 1 Trustees Area A.

Seven of the 21 results were different from the general results. Republican Kurt S. Bucholz won as State Representative for District 46 although LHS voted for Democrat Joseph R. Kiovsky. Jeanne Armintrout, Seth Adrian Carson, and Joe Hageman were elected as Members of the Laramie City Council At-Large by the general public.

LHS voted for Fred Homer, Bob Bell, and Amy Sunshine Moon. Mary M. Burman and Michelle Jones were elected for Albany County School District No. 1 Trustees for Area A. Phillip Brown and John Freeman were elected by LHS students.

Original Ordinance No. 1650 amends Chapter 8.56 and Chapter 8.32 of the Laramie Municipal Code, also known as the smoking ordinance, was voted into affect this past week. LHS students voted against the ordinance in their mock election.
