Fall choir concert this Oct.23

The LHS and Cheyenne East High School Choirs will combine to perform the fall choir concert entitled "Due West" this Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in the LHS Auditorium.

The LHS Concert Choir will join the East Chorale, LHS Girls Select and Treble Choirs will combine with East Harmonic Creations, and Plainsmen Singers and East Singers will join forces. There will also be a feature of the East and LHS "Guys."

According to LHS choir director Sandy Steele, "Music selections include the Wyoming Centennial Celebration song ‘We are Wyoming’ performed by all the combined choirs. A set of themed songs by Stephen Chatman entitled ‘Due West’ will include ‘Train’, ‘Prairie Lullaby’, ‘Sunset’, and ‘Chickadee.’ The women’s choir will perform ‘Songs of Wyoming’ and the Plainsmen/East Singers will present the ‘Cowboy Collage,’ a wonderful tribute to the American Cowboy. The concert will conclude with a performance of former UW music professor Gary Smart’s ‘Wyoming.’"

The EHS choirs are under the direction of Judy Harmon. The accompanist for this concert is Carolyn Cline.

The choirs also performed this program in Cheyenne, Oct. 22 at EHS at 7 p.m. The concert was free and open to the public.

LHS choral members excited

Choral director Sandy Steele and the LHS choir students are excited to perform with the East High School choirs at their two concerts this week.

The combined concerts, which are done about every six years, will provide an opportunity for the LHS choir to sing non-competitively with another choir. Mrs. Steele agrees with this, saying, "These concerts are providing a great opportunity to do something with another school that is not competitive."

The choirs will rehearse together on Tuesday at EHS from 4:45 to 6:15. They will have this slim time slot to get comfortable with the two choir directors, and then perform that evening.

The groups and number of vocalists in each include LHS Concert Choir, 52; East Chorale, 33; LHS Girls Select and Treble Choir, 22; East Harmonic Creations, 26; Plainsmen Singers, 16; East Singers, 14; LHS Guys, 6; EHS men’s group, 6.
