“Growing up in Laramie was different in my day. I graduated with a class of ten and I was the only girl. Things have changed since then,” Mrs. Derr exclaimed on Monday. Mrs. Derr also explained to us how she grew up and how work was different then compared to now. “The first job I ever had, I was a waitress, and everybody goes through their working for a restaurant phase. It seems as if the jobs kept getting worse for me!” she said while laughing. “I then went into making saddles with my dad, then from there I went to plumbing, how many young ladies do you know that can say they have been plumbers.”

Mrs. Derr has worked at the high school for around thirty years; she really likes teaching, but hates the paper work. “I have never taken favorites in class, but outside of the school classroom I love my FBLA kids.” When asked what her hobbies were, Mrs. Derr replied, “I leather work, cook clean cook clean and take care of my mother.”

“The most memorable moment in high school was me going to state and placing second in the high jump,” she added.

“I loved high school and miss it a lot. Stay in school and have fun—it will go by faster then you think.” That was Mrs. Derr’s final quote, before going back to teaching her fourth hour class.
