H.L. Hall, a decorated former journalism teacher, will be the keynote speaker this year at the Wyoming High School Student Press Association Convention on Monday morning Oct. 1.

H.L. Hall is the immediate past president of the Journalism Education Association (JEA). He served as JEA president for three terms.

Hall taught school for 38 years before retiring in 1999. His last 26 years were at Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood, Mo.

He also is the author of two textbooks- High School Journalism and Junior High Journalism. He is the co-author of a writing book called Observe, React, Think, Write: A Novel approach to Writing.

Hall has spoken at workshops in more than 40 states, including Hawaii and Alaska.

He is the only teacher to have been named the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund’s Teacher of the Year and JEA’s Yearbook Adviser of the Year. Hall received JEA’s first Teacher Inspiration Award this past April. In addition, he has received CSPA’s Gold Key, JEA’s Carl Towley Award and NSPA’s Pioneer Award.
