Multicultural hosts gathering
The Laramie High School Multicultural Group hosted a get together last Monday for ethnic students who are new to LHS this school year.
These students got together during lunch and their SEB. Each group member and guest was asked to bring some kind of food and an artifact from their heritage to share with the rest of the group.
After socializing and eating, they all got in a circle and further introduced themselves, talked about their heritage, the food that they brought, and their artifact. Natalie Hull brought in a dress from Korea, that she used to wear as a baby, which was given to her by her mom’s friend as a special gift.
"It was a lot of fun hearing from both group members and visitors, especially as they got more comfortable with each other," said Multicultural Group co-leader Connie Hull.

Help needed for Project
Donations of money or merchandise from senior parents and the Laramie community are still needed for Project Graduation the drug and alcohol free celebration for graduated seniors.
It will take place after graduation on May 30, at the University of Wyoming Field House.
Co-Chairs Dave and Chris Walrath and Tim and Pam Stamp wish to thank the Laramie community and parents for their continued support and they look forward to working for the Class of 2003.
They continue to ask for money or merchandise. Those who wish to contribute can contact Butch or Danette Keadle at 745-7447 or 742-4400, the Walraths at 742-8642 or the Stamps at 721-0388. They will arrange for pick up.
Parents of all seniors are also asked to contribute $25 for their student. This can be mailed or dropped off to Janie in the activities office.

Students receive certification
Six Culinary Arts/ProStart 1 students recently passed their National Restaurant Association (NRA) ServSafe Safety and Sanitation Certification.
The students include Sarah Sinclair, Anna Davis, James Volin, April Plasencio, Jeremy Rambo and Kirsten Ingle. Each student was awarded national certificates from the NRA. They will be able to show this certificate to their restaurant/hospitality employers or prospective employers.
"With the large number of food related illnesses that have been occurring, even in Wyoming, these students will be an important asset to their future employers," said instructor Roberta Schimek.

State applications available
Applications are now available for junior boys and girls interested in participating in Boys or Girls State.
Applications are available in the Counseling Office. The deadline will be Feb. 14 for girls and March 7 for boys.
Boys’ and Girls’ State is an opportunity to learn more about the United States and Wyoming government. A mock government takes place with individuals actually campaigning for positions and then holding those positions throughout the week. A trip to the state capitol in Cheyenne will conclude each week.
"Boys’ State is a great opportunity to meet new people, develop debating skills, and learn about the government," stated Colter Rieke, a 2002 Boys State participant.
Girls State will be May 31 to June 7 at the University of Wyoming and Boys’ State June 7-13 at the Douglas Fairgrounds.
For additional information, juniors may call Pat or Linda Flynn at 742-0501. Funding is provided for all selected candidates.
