Fall sports have begun and the girl's soccer team is hoping for the best. With 32 girls on the team, the season has been a little rocky and challenging.
So far, their record is 0-4 and they have been defeated by five or more goals in each game.
Coach Ryan Kolowinski said that the goal for this year's team is to "work as a team and stay on task which will be a step towards playing better."
Each girl that stepped on the field has proven herself and shown dedication.
So far, the team has developed a b ond which helps them to communicate on the field.
"We live by our motto, go hard or go home," said junior Cheryl Guevara.
"The team has improved their focus and has a healthy respect for one another which can help struggling teams to come together more.
Assistant coach Gary Milbrandt hopes that he motivattes and inspires the girls to apply what he teaches them in their everyday life.
Throughout the years, the girls have won numerous sportsmanship awards, which shows that both Kolowinski and Milbrandt know how to teach both winning and losing.
In the September 22nd game against Curtis, junior Kayley McArthur scored the first goal of the season. In fact, it was the first goal the Sentinels had scored in the past two years.
Junior Alicia Wilson recalled when asked about the goal," it was exciting. We work really hard as a team, so when it happens, it's like all the hard work is worth it."
"It's tough," said Coach Kolowinski, "when you're on the bottom looking up because you never get a night off."
However, Kolowinski is proud of his girls for their hard work and determination because sometimes it isn't always about winning and losing, but about building something special.
