The girls swimming team is off to a rough start, but they still have their heads held high with confidence that the season will improve.
This year, the team is coached by Megan Blevins, a teacher at Cougar Mountain. Blevins is new this season and has brought a new outlook to the team.
Team captains for the year are seniors Ashley Gregory and Mindy Widdoson. Aside from the captains there are 14other girls on the team this year, making for an exceptionally good turnout.
“Were all having fun, we have done so much to help the team. Like fundraisers and car washes. The spirit we have is amazing” said Gregory.
“It’s been a good year so far,” said junior Jessica Simmons. “We have lost our first two meets but we are steadily improving.”
Junior Jennifer Kercher, who is new to the squad this season said “ Our team’s goal is to get better and do our best”. Kercher decided to turn out this season because “Last year, everyone was so excited and I figured it would be fun to join.”
Already this season, the team has made a mark in the record books. Junior Sora Moon broke the Spanaway Lake record in the 500 meter race with a time of 5.44.
With many improvements already being made, the girl’s swimming team have their goals set to be the best that they can be.
