One of the many cakes shown off at the Danville Schools Celebration of Learning. - Marissa Kirkman

Learning is something we all do, and we all usually wouldn’t think to bake it in a cake. But for two teachers at DHS that is a serious matter. Jane Dewey and Shelly Lawrence put together this brilliant, fun and creative idea.
The Danville schools’ Celebration of Learning was held at Danville High School Thursday, March 15, and something extra was added to the fun evening: a bake off. A few students had each baked a wonderful cake, placed it at the judging table and people got to observe what they had done.
Each cake was very unique, but my favorite had to been have the cake that Phoebe Kingsley baked and decorated; which had won best of show. She fixed a two layer cake with white icing, and a large, blue anchor placed on the front.
It was very creative and it stood out, which is why it caught my eye. Now, the other cakes were designed great too. It looked as though judging would have been a tough job.
The other contestants included Meagan Smith who was the first runner up. Valerie, Celeste and Natalie Fieberg got best depiction of the Danville schools.
