The Danville Cross Country team qualified four runners for the state meet held on November 12. Among them were seniors Kaitlin Snapp, Karl Hempel, Chase Berry and junior Calvin Steber. At the 5K race, Snapp placed fifth among girls and all boys were under twenty minutes.
“I was a little disappointed in myself,” said Snapp, “I could have done better. I’m going to miss it.”
The boys were not jovial in their performances either. Calvin Steber was the only one to make the top fifty.
“I didn’t do very well,” said Karl Hempel, who posted a time of 19:48, “Cold day and a bad course. I wasn’t feeling it. I was glad I was there though.”
The Fast Ads have no regrets however. All runners were happy for what they accomplished individually and as a team.
“There’s no looking back,” continued Hempel, “You can’t regret it. What you did is what you did.”
Both student athletes were happy with the season as a whole and the progress made by their team.
“I love my team and I love my coaches. I was especially happy that Mr. McKinney rode up with us. That meant a lot,” stated Hempel.
“I’m going to miss running for this school,” said Snapp. “I have had a great time with my coaches and my teammates. I’ll miss them.”
Kaitlin is not finished running just yet. She has already committed to Elon University in North Carolina.
Kaitlin commented “I love it there. I’m very excited to continue my career at Elon.”
