Summer is a time of rest and relaxation for most high school students, but for junior Jono Beto his summer was a real life adventure similar to the ones only seen in books. He conquered Alaska for an entire month with the program Adventure Treks.

For over 30 years Adventure Treks has been giving teenagers the opportunities to live full scale adventures, like summiting and backpacking across mountains and volcanoes, during the summer.

For over 30 years Adventure Treks has been giving teenagers the opportunities to live full scale adventures, like summiting and backpacking across mountains and volcanoes, during the summer.

Beto is not new to Adventure Treks; this was his second year in the program. Last year he backpacked and rafted at Mt. Saint Helens.

"I went on three hiking trips, kayaked and ice climbed Matanuska glacier." Beto commented about his summer from June 27 to July 25.

Adventure Treks is no walk in a national park, but Beto has a definite passion for it.

"It’s grown on me. I wish others could share and experience the same feelings for adventure that I do," Beto remarks.

"It’s a real eye-opening experience." Beto explained. "Socially you learn to be more open with people; you have to if you want to have the fullest experience."

"I encourage others to just go outside and see the world; you never know what you’ll find."
