What is Black History Month or African American history month (if you want to be politically correct)? It’s a celebration of black culture and what it has provided our country during the month of February.

It’s a great idea, but why does one ethnicity get an entire month of praise? What about Asian, Native American, or Irish month to name a few. How about biracial or multicultural month? How do we fit in?

Danville High School can improve upon our celebratory methods for this month. We could do more than discuss George Washington Carver and his marvelous peanuts. We should honor all of the world’s greatest cultures.

What I heard Martin Luther King Jr. say was, "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." So let’s start celebrating them equally.
