When most people leave Danville High School they never return to stay; lots return to visit. One “new” teacher at DHS this year returned to stay.

Danielle Burke completed her student teaching at Danville under Joan Haigh in the fall of 2003, then obtained a teaching position the next semester.  After her stay at DHS, Burke went on to teach at Washington County for three years and now returns to Danville for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Burke, a native of Junction City, graduated from Boyle Country High School. She then went on to Centre College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in English followed by her Master’s Degree in English from the University of Kentucky.

“I went into teaching because I loved reading and learning so much I wanted to share that with students,” commented Burke.  “I like talking to students, to see them learning, and to be excited about reading,” Burke said.

This year Danielle Burke is teaching English II and the English half of American Studies.  Outside of school Burke likes “to read and spend time with friends and family.”  Burke feels that at DHS “we have a school focused on student achievement and preparing students for the future,” a future that will now include Danielle Burke.
