In MTV’s The Perfect Score, a group of high school students who fear failing the SAT (because they equate that with failing at life) plot to steal the answers to the upcoming evaluation. In the end, though, they realize that cheating is not worth it, give the keys to a few potheads, and set off toward the rest of their lives.

Two DHS students recently garnered their own perfect scores. Senior Kelsey Snapp made a 36 on the ACT and junior John Liu scored a 2400 on his SAT.

We at The Log thought it would be a good idea to discuss testing and life in general with these two. The following is the discussion that Snapp, Liu, and your correspondent had.

Q: What is the SAT/ACT like?

L: Well, there are ten sections in the SAT. Each section lasts from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on which section it is. It’s a big menacing beast…

S: The ACT is test with… Well I forgot how many sections; but its got math, science, reading, English, and writing.

Q: Which test is better?

S: The SAT is widely considered to be (better). Neither are good tests of intelligence. If you practice you can do well on either.

Q: How did you prepare?

L: I took lots and lots of practice tests. They’re not that exciting… I mean… Oh well.

Q: Do you have any advice for future testers?

L: Know your enemy.

S: Basically, just go in and stay calm.

Q: How important are these tests to a student’s future?

L: They won’t make you. But, they probably will break you.

S: You have to have good scores to be considered for big name schools. But scores alone won’t get you in anywhere.

Q: How much better are you than each other?

L: Let me just think about this for a moment, taste my victory…Vastly superior.

S: Depends on what you’re talking about… No comment.

Q: Do you consider yourself a nerd?

L: Sure…

S: Yeah…

Q: What would you say to people who dislike nerds?

L: We are the future.

S: People call me that – I either just ignore it or embrace it. It’s a compliment really.
