“Live, Love, Laugh,” a series of one acts and monologues opens Thursday, March 18, at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $5, and the show will run again on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.

Actors will perform 17 scenes, “which range from comedic to serio comedic,” according to drama director Brian Frishman.

“[Frishman] made it so that there’s some sort of ironic music playing at the beginning of each scene that relates to the scene,” senior Angelica Gonzalez said.

The music has a comedic effect and is used to transition between scenes, according to Frishman.

“I’m talking to a dead guy in the skit, ‘The Dead Man’s Cell Phone,’ and ‘Another one Bites the Dust’ plays in mine,” Gonzalez said.

According to Gonzalez, the cast will perform one acts that have been performed at previous Theaterworks performances. “Philadelphia,” for example, was performed in 2008 by Seth Katz, ’09, and Nick Foote, ’09.

This time, freshmen Jacob Frankel, Jianna Gudebski and Logan Winfield will perform the scene.

“[My character is] really freaked out because I’m in a metaphysical world known as the ‘Philadelphia’ where you get the opposite of what you ask for,” Frankel said.

Originally, the drama department was going to perform the full-length “Beauty Fraud,” but the play was cancelled due to frequent absences at practices.

The Theaterworks production has allowed for a more flexible practice schedule, Frishman said.

“I wish we were still doing the play, but it wasn’t possible because we started [rehearsing] too late,” sophomore Blair Wigney said.

But freshman Gerardo Vergara (in “Bonquita”) thinks the skits “end up being funnier [than a full play].”

Gonzalez said she is particularly excited about “Supreme Beings Create the World“ and “Letters,” a series of related scenes interspersed throughout the production.

“[Freshmen] Madeline Arnett and Leslie Rieger are in a funny one [‘Supreme Beings Create the World’]. Two angels decide how things on Earth are going to work.”
