It’s the dreaded five-hour long test that no teenager wants to wake up at 7 a.m. to take. But what makes this experience even worse? Here’s a collection of SAT horror stories.
Senior Gabby Vasquez

“I took my SATs in October at Kennedy High School. [The proctor] would let people talk a little bit during the test and there were loud noises the entire time. There was a door that kept on slamming and it was really cold. Fire alarms kept going off, but [the proctor] wouldn’t fix any of it.”

Senior Lily Kramlich-Taylor

“When I took the SAT at St. Francis [High School] last May, I sat through a 20-minute prayer prior to the start of the test. Once everyone who was in my room was seated, our proctor came to the front and gave us an introduction about herself. She then said she would like to take a moment to pray for her daughter who was a teacher at Loretto and therefore no longer had a job. Then some of the St. Francis girls in my room began standing up and saying they would like to pray for some person in their life. Eventually a numerous amount of people began adding people on to pray for, and it became a giant group prayer.”

Senior Will Banks

“Just after starting my second SAT Subject Test in November, I began to hear this quiet sobbing to the right of me. I looked over, along with most of the room, to see a girl crying to herself. Wondering what exam caused such despair, I saw that we both were taking the math SAT Subject Test. Five minutes into the test she all but gave up taking it. I never saw her pencil move and she shut her calculator. The crying persisted to the end of the test, an hour later.”
