It’s a Saturday afternoon and you and your friends want to do something fun. You’ve seen all the movies, the mall is getting old, and watching T.V. at each other’s houses just isn’t fun anymore.

To top it off, you’re on a tight budget.

The perfect place for anyone who’s feeling the weekend blues, Old Town Sacramento is both fun and cheap.

Although two hours at a movie theater can cost up to $15 with snacks, a full day at Old Town with snacks and more can cost you under $25.

Annabelle’s Pizza– The below-ground building has a dark atmosphere and delicious pizza. A small pizza with one topping is only $8 with tax.

Munchies Salt Water Taffy– Though it is one of the more expensive candy stores in Old Town, Munchies carries over 400 types of candy and hundreds of varieties of taffy. Flavors range from lemon meringue to watermelon. Half a pound of taffy is $3.79.

Old Sacramento Candy Barrel–This candy shop features an abundance of candy, chocolate, and confections, overflowing barrels that line the room. They offer free taffy samples, and you can purchase a half pound for $3.50.

Sacramento Sweets– This store is great if you are in the mood for candy-like peanut brittle or chocolate-covered marshmallows. It has been making its own chocolate and brittle since opening in 1964. Most items are $2.50 each, and a soft-serve ice cream is $3.45. Freshman Bryan Nakagaki sampled chocolate-covered ants here.

Evangeline’s– Evangeline’s is full of unusual novelties, wigs, and jewelry to amuse your friends or trick the unsuspecting. There are crazy hats, magnets, masks, and tacky sunglasses. There is also an upstairs open only during the Halloween season. Sophomore Sarah Mancina likes trying on sunglassesat Evangeline’s.

O’Grady’s Oldtime Photos– Pose for an old-fashioned photo with your friends while wearing one of their costumes.Themes range from a saloon fight to a wedding.

The final picture looks very authentic, and you can get a group package containing two 5 x 7 photos for $34.

Horse-drawn carriage– For only $10, you can take a ride around Old Town.

Stage Nine– Housing one of the largest entertainment collections in Northern California, this shop is devoted entirely to movie memorabilia. You can purchase fake I.D.’s, life-size cut-outs, posters, and autographed pictures of actors.
