At-a-glance

In 1996, Barack Obama was a state Senator in Illinois. It helped his name get acknowledged by voters who did not know who he was before. In his 2008 election he managed to raise 750 million dollars. In his 2012 election, he has raised 47 million so far. Obama has had many accomplishments since he has been elected. He signed his economic plan into a law which saved 3.6 million jobs which had a big impact on America as unemployment was increasing. He has traveled around the United States to talk about his viewpoints on certain topics such as abortion, education and immigration. All of the candidates have their own viewpoints on these certain topics but some people may not agree with them. In April, Obama visited University of North Carolina and he talked about how he understood how much college cost to be for college and that Congress should keep the cost of student loans from increasing. Candidates for the 2012 election are arguing about education. Obama feels like this is one of the most important topics. He wants to double the United States investment in scholarships and financial aid, so middle class families can have a college education and finish it. “I like that Obama cares about his voters and tries to help out a lot of them” said Tiara Clark, sophomore. According to CNSNEWS.com, Obama is pro-choice. He supports abortion and feels that his daughters and every other woman should have the same rights and freedom to fulfill their dreams. Social websites such as Twitter, Facebook etc., has helped Obama and also other candidates with their campaigns because it gives them a chance to share their ideas about certain topics and also their goals they want to accomplish.

Immigration is a stirring up a lot of controversy in the political world. Obama believes that the U.S have to secure our border and immigrants should be accounted for, but if they are illegal immigrants, they should have to pay a fine.

“Obama has been a good president because he changed a lot of things such as our economy,” said Ja’Quitta Folston, senior.

Some may say that Obama should not be re-elected because he does meet the criteria of being a president and also because he served his time and should let someone else run.

“ If I could vote I would vote for Mitt Romney this election, because I agree with him on a lot of things such as how he feels about abortion and education and that is important in the world today,” said Chandler King, sophomore.

There are different opinions about candidates and what they do for the citizens. Democrat or Republican, voters just want the best for them as citizens.
