Global warming has become perhaps the most complicated issue facing the world.  Warnings from scientists are becoming louder because this is a problem that has to be taken care of.

Scientists have proven that even if the Earth is warming because of its natural cycle, the release of greenhouse gases has accelerated the process of global warming. The Earth's temperature has not increased significantly in about 15 years; the 1990s was the hottest decade in history.

Global warming can lead to harmful consequences that will affect humans and other organisms.  The earth is already seeing some consequences including rise of sea levels. Global warming is causing sea levels along the northeastern U.S. coast to rise twice as fast as usual; this will put New York at greater hazard for damage from hurricanes.  Other consequences global warming has the potential to cause are stronger hurricanes, drier climate, extinct species and others.

Quick melting of ice and snow mountains will lead to a huge loss of drinking water available.  40% of the world population relies on the drinking water from the snow mountains and ice. Another problem that global warming can cause is that the melting of snow can lead to flooding and droughts.

Earth’s growing reliance on electricity from coal burning and power has increased the plants release of amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. With the Earth’s population growing at a fast rate, the demand for more cars and consumer goods means that the use of fossils are increasing for transportation and manufacturing.  All these problems that global warming is causing are all human related, or being accelerated because of humans, but it is the humans who are going to be affected.

We all need to help if we want to avoid the harmful consequences on our earth.  Doing simple things like taking shorter showers, turning off the lights, unpluging appliances when not using them, recycling and using compact fluorescent bulbs can help slow down global warming.  Other ways to help are using fuel-efficient cars and installing solar electricity, these are more effective ways to help slow down global warming.

If humans do not do something, the consequences will be harmful to Earth and can change regular ways of life negatively.
