It seems as though students at Paint Branch get into a monotonous, day- to- day routine. Same classes, same teacher, same faces passed in the halls. I find myself living my days unconsciously because I know my every move. Which hallway and stairway I take to the friends I say “hey” to on my walk to 3rd period, have already been pre-planned in my mind. What ever happened to the variety and spontaneity in life? Perhaps teens have lost all hope after the years and years of having a schedule set in stone.

Besides more freedom and better dances, changing classes at the new semester is another perk that goes along with being a big, bad high schooler. Changing teachers and room numbers briefly snaps us out of a trance that began 90 days ago.

Apart from the “more exciting” school day, switching classes also gives students a new opportunity to start over. Many times when a student receives a bad grade the blame is instantly placed upon the teacher. A change gives you the chance to find new teachers with new teaching styles that help you to get the grade you want. Having new classmates also allows students to meet new people.

As we know, first impressions are important. Teachers are just as quick to judge us as we are to judge them. All of our bad days, failed tests, and incomplete homework are on record and memory. With new teachers, you have a clean slate; whatever label was placed on you in the previous semester is entirely wiped away.

Whether it is being bored, being tired of a teacher, trying to start over, or just needing a change, changing classes is one of the few things that students at PB shouldn’t complain about.

Besides, it’s fun to see freshmen get lost trying to find their classes for a second time.
