Sundae face off

Braum's *****
The sundae from Braum’s has vanilla ice cream, thick hot fudge, whipped cream, toasted almonds and a cherry. You can’t go wrong! The definite standout in this sundae was the hot fudge. The extremely warm chocolate was served generously and distributed evenly throughout bowl. The ice cream did not fail to impress either. It was thick with a strong vanilla taste, giving it a homemade appeal. Lastly, the toppings were perfection. Just the right amount of fluffy whipped cream and warm almonds left me wanting more.  $1.69 500 calories

Andy's ****
The obvious selling point of the sundae from Andy’s is the frozen custard. It has a thick texture but still remains smooth; resembling gelato more than ice cream. The sundae is covered in a mound of hot fudge with two maraschino cherries on top. For one last indulgence, an overload of salted pecans are sprinkled over the bowl. The nuts provide this treat with the perfect balance between savory and sweet. The only drawback to this sundae is the high price. $4.24 970 calories

McDonald's *
The least impressive of the four tested sundaes was from McDonald’s. Even though the ice cream had a soft texture, it was completely flavorless. The sundae also lacked whipped cream, nuts and a cherry. A positive aspect of the treat though, was the hot fudge. It was not warm but it was extremely thick and flavorful. Even though the overall appeal of the sundae was not impressive, it only costs $0.99, so you get what you pay for. 99¢  330 calories

Steak 'n' Shake ***
Steak ‘n’ Shake’s sundae had many pros and cons. The dessert took 15 minutes to come to the table, and after its arrival, the hot fudge had become cold and had sunk to the bottom. Their sundae contains just ice cream, whipped cream, hot fudge and a cherry, which is very simple. The simplicity, however, enables you to savor the flavor of the rich, buttery vanilla ice cream. Despite setbacks with the hot fudge, the light whipped cream and overall flavor of the ice cream gave this treat three cherries. $2.49 500 calories
