As April begins, the girls track team is looking optimistically toward the season. However, this season will bring much change.

Many new freshmen runners have brought a sense of motivation.

Junior long distance runner Jeanette Patrick enthusiastically agrees. Patrick said, “We have a ton of new runners this year and they are really stepping up!”

Junior sprinter/jumper Marika Starks had a different thought on the incoming freshmen. “We have a lot of freshmen who are very talented, but a little inexperienced. If we can fit this talent in with the experience we already have with our upperclassmen, we can become a really tough team,” said Starks.

As far as results, the team seems to be happy with where they are currently but are not totally satisfied.

Freshmen sprinter/jumper Lexi Coonrod said, “We’re not the best team in this area but we definitely aren’t the worst. We have some room for improvement.”

Even though it is very early in the season, state competition seems to be a very realistic goal.

Starks said, “We have a definite chance to have some of our relays and jumpers to go to state. Other than that, I think all of our events are very strong and have major state potential.”
