Some of the students tend to slack off at the end of the year. -

There are only nine days left for underclassmen and four left for seniors, and like every other year some kids are slacking.

Why are they slacking? Actually, there are many different reasons students slack off at the end of a school year.

One reason according to junior Kyle Neff is that people are ready to get out of school, especially the seniors.

When do people slack off the most? Sophomore Patrick Normansell says, “It is when they are with their friends.”

“The reason is they are more interested in chatting to their friends,” says junior Kim McCall.

Why do they slack off? “I would rather hang out with my friends,” says junior Danielle Bitgood.

Now you might think that most of the people slack off at the end of the year, but there are actually people that don’t slack off. Even though they don’t slack off, freshman Abigail Ewart says, that “school does bore her.”

So what could teachers do to make it less boring? Ewart says, “They need to make school harder.”

There are people besides Ewart that do continue to work at school. Sophomore Alex Williams is motivated to keep working because she wants to someday become a lawyer.

“College” motivates senior Amber Aitken, so she tries not to slack off even though she admits people “are going to slack off anyway.”

Grades are another motivating factor. Students are aware that slacking causes grades to drop and can keep them from earning awards, and eventually scholarships. Once grades drop, it’s difficult to change. “Your GPA is already done,” said freshman Andy Mihalik.

Good grades also help when it comes to insurance. There is a “good student discount,” said junior Doug Lane if students have maintained a high GPA.

So how can teachers and the school prevent slacking at the end of the year? Aitken says, “There should be more hands on stuff.”

Lane thinks, “The teachers should make learning more fun.”
