Big scary hallways, mean upperclassmen and strict teachers are just some of the myths that upperclassmen want freshmen to believe as they start their first year in the high school. They just want to scare the freshmen for pure entertainment reasons.

Finishing my freshman year, I have one thing to say: “That wasn’t that bad.” The hallways grow smaller with all the people, you learn to ignore the upperclassmen or just laugh along with them and the teachers aren’t as strict as what they are said to be. Overall, high school shouldn’t be a time to be scared; it should be a time to experience new things.

There are many more opportunities in high school than there are in middle school. There are more class options like foreign languages and more levels of class for one’s certain abilities. Also, there are more people to become friends with.

In high school there are more things to get involved with. I got involved in Ski Club because I had skied when I was younger and I wanted to get back into it. Others play sports because they have always played them and enjoyed them. “Cheerleading wasn’t my thing when I was younger. I always played basketball and softball, but soccer just clicked the most. I guess it’s because I liked to kick and use my feet more than my hands. I enjoy it so much because it’s fun hard work plus it’s always a challenge. I love it and could not imagine not playing it,” says freshman Megan Normansell.

I would suggest getting involved in clubs or sports. They help you make new friends and they help you make memories that will last forever. Clubs and sports are a neat way to make yourself known throughout high school.

Freshmen are said to be very gullible. This is true when the upperclassmen go around saying that we will get out of school at 1:30 for the snow, and we all believe it at some point in time. Even if you know it’s not true, you probably will believe it because you want it to be true. These rumors are normally not true and even though I fell for them once, I will continue to play the trick on upcoming freshmen.

As I end my freshman year, I look back on the memories I made and laugh about how I believed the lies I was told. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I will pull these pranks on the new freshmen. Watch your back, you never know when people like Coleman Forrestal will jump out from behind closed doors.
