The marching band kicked off their competition season at the Chilhowie Apple Festival on  Sept. 24. They performed their show, Jazz, against the only other band in their class, Patrick Henry. The band received first place in parade, auxiliary, drum line, marching, music, general effect, overall, and second place in drum major.  They also received a superior rating and a first place total.

“Marching onto the field, I was uncertain as to how we were going to do, but after the show I was a bit more confident. I was pleased with our results and can’t wait until we get our whole show on the field,” said sophomore Rebecca Kelly. “It was a surprising win. The scores were really close,” said sophomore Millie Leong.

On Oct.1, the band went to Union High School and placed second in drum line and marching, third in auxiliary and general effect, and fourth in music and drum major. They received a superior rating and a second place total.

“We played a good show, but the cold kept us from doing our best jobs,” said sophomore Andrew Rock. “We didn’t do as well in Wise because after our victory at Chilhowie everyone in the band got cocky and lost all discipline at practice,” said senior Hunter Wilson.
