The Sadie Hawkins Dance will take place on Oct. 28 after the football game against Tazewell High School. The Sadie Hawkins dance is sponsored by the Civenettes which is a national organization known for their citizenship and volunteer work. The club at AHS is for junior and senior girls only with two to three guys designated as the “sweethearts” of the club.  

The history behind Sadie Hawkins day is very unique. It all started in 1937 from a comic strip, L’il Abner. In this famous cartoon there was one day in November when unmarried women could chase bachelors around town and hope that they would catch them.            

The dance caught on when schools and college campuses across the nation became inspired by this comic and began holding dances on this day. Now the dance can occur at anytime. 

Along with dress up days, the girls will bring the guy presents throughout the week according to the theme for that day, and on Friday, the guy is responsible for bringing his date a gift.
