At-a-glance

The craziest month of the year has just ended and it is now April. April seems so lame; there is no catchy saying to April like the previous month, which is March Madness of course. It’s my favorite month of the year and it should be yours too because it’s a month were the little guy gets an opportunity to shine.

This year’s tournament underwent over 20 upsets which obliterated my bracket along with millions of others. Some of the big upsets included Wichita State over Tennessee, Texas A&M over Syracuse, and LSU in the final four. But all of these upsets were all overshadowed by one team, and as much as it pains me to say it, being the die-hard Uconn fan that I am, George Mason. George Mason tied the record for lowest seed in the Final Four, and arguably forced the biggest upsets in college basketball history.

This was no fluke. You don’t beat powerhouses like Michigan State, North Carolina and Uconn in a matter of two weeks on lucky shots and hope, sure George Mason did have that but they won because they believed they could and played with heart.

There’s no reason why OHS can’t be a George Mason or any other Cinderella team. Everyone looks at OHS as a “mid-conference” level team because we haven’t won anything. Dominant teams like Ridge, Goldwater and Deer Valley who have been around for a while give us no respect because we are new and don’t know any

I’ve got news for every OHS athlete at this school, we are George Mason, the team that everyone over looks and thinks they can stomp on. We have the talent to upset the big dogs and all we need is to play like there’s no tomorrow, and this quality makes us very dangerous because we all know we can win its just a matter of how hard we want it.
