A fun and successful season has ended for the OHS boys varsity basketball team, losing to Ironwood, 77-65, in the first round of the state playoffs.

The Eagles finished the regular season with a bang, winning their final three regular season games against Mountain Ridge, 93-68, North Canyon, 91-61, and Trevor Browne, 70-67.

Finishing the season with three consecutive wins gave OHS huge momentum going into playoffs season.

OHS’s first region game was at home against Kingman, who was winless against the eagles in the regular season.

During the game, the first dunk in OHS history took place by Cameron Cacciatore.

“It was the second quarter and Tyler Koldstet was doing an amazing job on pressuring the ball handler and he turned the other player towards the middle of the floor,” Cacciatorre said. “I came up and the Kingman guard tried to throw a pass over my head but I intercepted it and went the other way for a jam; it was awesome.”

Following the Kingman victory OHS traveled to the home of the Bulldogs and upset Goldwater, 82-76.

Two days later OHS went into number one ranked Deer Valley looking to win its first region champion-ship.

The game went back and forth with OHS trailing by three at the half and came out swinging in the second half only to lose by two points.

With the Deer Valley loss it gave the eagles a fifth place ranking facing Ironwood High School at home in the first round of the state playoffs.

“It was tough to beat Ironwood,” said head coach Will Jones. “They have playoff experience and we don’t. To get to a champ-ionship game you have to lose first beacuse you learn from your defeat.”
