A person’s identity is defined through their preferences, values and actions. Everything from what group of friends you hang out with, what outfits you wear,, to what type of beverage you drink all display a portion of your identity.
"Personality, no doubt, affects the preferences and the choice of one over another that a person makes," said Kyla Morrissey, a psychology teacher. It is no different for beverage preference.
If the types of coffee are to be matched up to personality, there are several kinds of coffee that can compliment people of various personalities.
According to pourmeacup.com, Macchiato is a cup of espresso coffee with a dash of milk and froth, just enough cream to soften the wakening attributes of an espresso. If you’re not a morning person, the macchiato would be a great wake-up drink to start off the day on a brighter note.
Frappuccinos, a trademark of Starbucks, is more of an afternoon drink, being heavier in both calorie intake and flavor. Frappuccinos have a high concentration of sugar and, though watered down, a bit of espresso, implying the drinker is someone youthful (at heart) enough for a sweet tooth every now and then.
On the flip side, black coffee, served without crème or milk, gives off a mature feel; black coffee drinkers have a tolerance for bitter coffee, attributed to older ages. Black coffee is a taste that can be acquired to change the identity one wishes to display.
Tea implies ambience and peace of mind. Brewed from natural plants, various types of tea display just as many qualities, such as clearing the blood flow, calming the heart, among other health benefits.
According to Morrissey, coffee can be viewed as an energetic, social and fast paced beverage (perhaps the most popular in America) while tea is more traditional, unhurried, tracing back to its ancient roots in the orients. Though tea does contain caffeine, it is often associated with a peaceful demeanor and a laid back personality.
One beverage, essential to all humans but preferred by a few, is water. Water reflects candidacy and health consciousness. Coupled frequently with athletes and purity, water can imply an honest, hardworking personality.
Of course, the meaning of the beverages all depends on the perspective and identity of the one who categorizes them.
