The Consumer
Electronics Show is an
annual trade show where
breakthrough technology
is unveiled and products of
the future are announced.
Microsoft, Sony, Samsung,
and every other major tech
company come to the exhibit
each year to demonstrate
new products and build
hype for developmental
prototypes.
This year’s CES, held Jan.
7 through Jan. 10 at the Las
Vegas Convention Center,
was full of cutting-edge
products in all categories of electronics.
Panasonic HDC-SD9 camcorder
The Panasonic HDC-SD9 will be the smallest and
lightest HD video camera on the market when it releases
March 31. The camera weighs only 0.6 lbs and is less
than six inches long. Being an HD camera, it can record 6
hours of full 1080p [1920 x 1080 pixels with progressive
recording] resolution video on a 16 GB SDHC flash card.
The best part about the HDC-SD9 is its price: MSRP
$799.
Samsung Q1 Ultra-Premium Tablet PC
The Samsung Q1 Ultra-Premium is a very light and compact, yet fully functioning,
Microsoft Windows Tablet PC. It features a seven-inch 1024x600 pixel touch screen, split
QWERTY keyboard, 80 GB hard-drive, Bluetooth 2.0, integrated WiFi, SD card slot, 1.3
megapixel camera and 7.5 hours of battery life. If you’re always on the go, this tablet PC
will exceed all your needs and expectations. Price: $1,399.
Casio EX-F1 digital camera
This might be my favorite product unveiled at CES
2008. The Casio EX-F1 is a digital camera that can record
still-frame images at 60 frames per second and high speed
video at up to 1200 frames per second. That is fast enough
to capture the globe of water after popping a filled water
balloon. With most digital cameras offering anywhere
from two to five frames per second of still image capture,
the EX-F1 is truly revolutionary. One mild drawback is that
the still images are a slightly small, but still respectable,
6.1 megapixels; however, the EX-F1 can record full
high-definition 1080p video at 60 frames per second.
Considering all these breakthrough features, the price is a
very reasonable $999.
Peavy AG Riftmaster for Guitar Hero
Do you want to rock even harder? The Peavey AG Riffmaster, a
Guitar Hero controller for the Sony Playstation 2, allows you to do just
that. It is made of a genuine, full-scale, guitar body fitted with Guitar
Hero fret buttons and strum bar. Also, it is available in 15 different
themes of famous rock bands such as Megadeth [pictured], KISS and
Pantera. The only downside is the price: a whopping $399.
