School will soon come to an end, and teens everywhere will finally get the chance to do what they’ve been dreaming of doing since the first day of school: going to the pool and the beach! Everyone will be getting their well-deserved tans and splashing around in the water, but the real question is: What will they be wearing? This season there are lots of new styles and colors, so whether you’re looking for a teeny bikini or a modest one-piece, finding a bathing suit that is just as unique as you are is not far from reach.
Water, Water Everywhere, a store at Tysons I, sells girls brand-name swimsuits, such as Juicy Couture, Anne Cole and Calvin Klein, for a brand name price. Most of their swimsuits range from $70 to $130, but the preppy designs and bright colors make up for the high prices.
Victoria’s Secret sells swimsuits to girly girls looking to show a lot of skin. Their swimsuits can be ordered over the internet (victoriassecret.com) or by catalog. If you’re interested in polka dot patterns, pastel colors or designs with hearts, Victoria’s Secret may have your perfect match.
“I like Victoria’s Secret because I like the styles they have,” said sophomore Elizabeth Milton. “They always have cute colors.”
Pacific Sunwear sells both boys and girls swimsuits for a lower price than Water, Water Everywhere, but still sells popular brand names, such as Roxy, Billabong and Rusty, all in different shapes, sizes and colors.
“[The swimsuit styles for summer 2005 are] anything with embellishment such as sequins and turquoise beading,” said Gina Rolle, the national sales manager for Rusty Girl. “Also, bikinis that are the same color ,but with different print on the bottom than on top.”
Even though Pac Sun specifically sells specifically surf-brand swimsuits, the swimsuits aren’t just for surfers.
“We don’t design our swimwear just for surf girls, but we do keep them in mind,” Rolle said. “We stay true to our core surf girl, but we design for any girl from ages 15-22. We go to all the hottest beaches and hotel resorts in places like Cabo and Cancun and see what all the girls are wearing, then we come back and design our swimsuits.”
Sports Authority offers swimsuits that would be good for athletic swimmers. Although the girls Speedo brand one-pieces may not be as attractive or colorful as the suits from the other stores, they function well and may be useful for activities such as waterskiing, scuba diving and white water rafting
Target sells quality swimsuits at a fraction of the cost of most other shops.
“Target is so good at what they’re doing that it’s hurting the smaller stores,” Rolle said. “As much as I hate to say it, Target is a great place for kids to shop; they sell equally as good products at a third of the price.”
