The stage lit up April 28-30 as the Hoban Troubadours performed in their production of the spring musical Honk!

Based on the Tale of the Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen, this year's spring musical found Ugly, a cygnet living in a duck's world, shunned by his siblings and lured away from his mother by the meddling Cat.

Ugly (Will Hamilton) escapes the clutches of the hungry Cat (Sarah Kenny), only to be stranded in unfamiliar farmland. His mother, Ida (Megan Dal Santo) leaves her nest, along with her chicks and hesitant husband Drake (John Veillette) behind to search for Ugly, who encounters many a fowl friend or foe along the way.

Senior Justin Hanna, who played Greylag and the Turkey, said director Colleen Bowers did an excellent job in bringing the story to life.

"She cast the play especially well," he said.

Junior Jensen Dash, who played the King, agreed.

"We did so well because the cast became very close during practices. It made the musical that much better."

Senior Matt Mortier, who attended the Friday performance, enjoyed the show.

"It was laid-back and simple," he said. "I could tell it was a fun musical to perform because of the way the actors expressed themselves."

Besides the actors, students served on set construction, played in the orchestra and assisted with sound and lighting.

Micah Kraus was the set designer, and Russ Kwitkowski designed lighting and directed the technical crews.
