To the Visor:

I was in the Class of '97, and I read the Visor online. I came across the editorial, "Slogans do little to support our troops" [Jan. 18]. I can see where the writer's opinion is coming from, but I do disagree.

To quote: "After all, most of the ribbons are sold at gas stations next to the Scooby-Doo air-fresheners, and it's unlikely any proceeds go toward the troops."

This statement from the editorial most likely is true, but those stickers, slogans and ribbons provide much more support than any monetary gift I can think of. They give a boost to morale.

Slogans are very powerful and can have a strong negative or positive effect. The reception given from other countries isn't always a warm one, and those slogans serve as a pleasant reminder.

I also wanted to point out that troops is a better word to refer to those in the Armed Services rather than soldiers.
