Staying after school does not have to be just a boring wait for a ride. Now students have the option of joining the new Ultimate Frisbee Club rather than roaming the campus or sitting in the library.

Ultimate Frisbee is a sport in which the object of the game is to pass the Frisbee between teammates successfully without letting it ever hit the ground. A team scores when one of its members catches the Frisbee in a designated end zone.

Sophomores Terence Hillery and Alex Balogh, who hang around after school waiting for rides, are the founders of the new club.

"It was a combined idea that started last year," Hillery said.

Any new club requires a procedure to be approved, Balogh explained

"We used a petition to show the interest in the club," he said.

Hillery said the hardest part was finding a faculty moderator.

"It took Mr. [Micah] Kraus getting onboard to get serious consideration from the administration," he said.

After that, they had to seek the approval of several administrators, Hillery said

"We had to go to Mr. [Casey] Yandek, then to Dr. [Mary Anne] Beiting," he said. "Then we had go to the athletic director [Sean Quinn] to see if there was field space."

Their perseverance was worthwhile. An astonishing 67 people signed up at the Sept. 14 meeting.

Games will be played whenever Balogh and Hillery can obtain time on the upper practice field. The time of the games will be publicized over the announcements, and an e-mail will be sent to all members of the club. Anyone can still sign up. Interested students just have to see either Balogh, Hillery or Kraus.

Now drivers on Interstate 76 must beware of flying Frisbees coming their way between 3 and 4 p.m.
