To the Visor:

Each time I check in on things with my alma mater, I am more impressed with the accomplishments of the Visor. My memory of student life at Hoban is filled with triumphant and not-so-triumphant times, but I always have wonderful thoughts of my experiences writing for the paper. Nearly 10 years after my tenure on the Visor, I see the publication has been improving, while maintaining its core focus of providing thought-provoking and objective reports on issues pertaining to Hoban. I still use the skills I learned. Whether you choose a career in journalism or find new passions in other fields, your Hoban education will prove invaluable in every endeavor.

I notice you publish the Visor online. While a student at Ohio University, I also published a periodical using the remarkable technology now available. The content is as gripping and robust as ever. What I took for granted then, but learned quickly as I matured, was that the opportunity to present news to a mass audience is both an honor and a privilege. Your professionalism and success demonstrate that you respect that opportunity.

There is little glamour in journalism. The one shining moment that makes the interviewing, travel, multiple revisions and copy-editing worthwhile is when someone you least expect mentions they read your story?and enjoyed it. Better yet, they were even informed. In any case, keep searching for the story that inspires you. Your passion for writing will take care of the rest.
