Traffic jams are not just found in New York City; Hoban can boast its own maddening gridlock. However, the school is trying to lessen the congestion by adding some asphalt to the grounds. Sometime soon it may be possible to park where the tennis and handball courts once were.

Junior Annie Flynn realizes the need for additional parking.

"When I get here late and especially when the lower lot is blocked off, the upper lot becomes full quickly and everyone has to park really close together," she said.

Throughout December, the concrete was removed and fill dirt was brought in to raise the land to the height of the main campus. According to Brother Ken Haders, school president, the earth must be given time to settle before any improvements can be made. The proximity of the land to the stadium and an overall effort to improve the appearance of the grounds governed the decision.

Students may be concerned about the future of the tennis program, but long-range plans include expansion of the usable land on campus.

"It is our hope to expand the plateau on the east side of the property to include about two acres of additional land," Haders said.

This extra ground could ultimately be used for tennis courts and other school needs.

Junior Julie Mitchell is excited about the school's decision.

"Although I won't be here to enjoy them, I'm happy one of the school's long-term goals is to build new tennis courts," she said.
