With a win over Buchtel and a loss to St. Vincent-St. Mary, the boys track team is heading toward the postseason.

The Knights hosted rival St. V-M April 17.  The Irish came away victorious, 71-57.  Winning for the Knights were junior Ellis Thompson in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and long jump, senior Matt Alto in the 3200 as well as the 400, 800 and 1600 relay teams.

When Buchtel came to Hoban April 10, the Knights beat the defending state champs 81-47.  Individual winners included Thompson in the 200, freshman Dan Salamon in the 100 and senior Andrew Luse in the 400.  Distance winners were sophomore Chase Harshbarger, junior Jim Scalf and Alto.

Salamon expressed his excitement about beating the Griffins.

"That win was very special," he said. "It shows how good of a team we are now and how good of a team we can become. Hoban track is going to go far this year."

Last Friday, April 20, the Knights visited Trinity and took part in a 16-team tournament.  Hoban finished fifth and had two separate winners.  Thompson set a meet record in the long jump with 21-foot-10 and the 4x100 relay team of Thompson, Salamon and juniors Matthew Primes and Will Bertolini finished first as well.

Head Coach Dave Arbogast talked about his feelings for the rest of the year.

"I think we'll contend for the North Coast League title in two weeks," he said.  "Trinity was the only team that beat us last Friday."

The Knights' next meet is tonight at St. Thomas Aquinas at 4 p.m.  As Hoban looks toward the North Coast League meet and playoffs, Salamon has high expectations for the team.

"I hope our 4x100 meter relay team can get to states," he said.  "Actually, I just want the whole team to get to states too."

Arbogast knows that the future is bright for his team.

"We're still young and we're still improving," he said.
