Apple has always been quite famous for their breakthrough inventions in technology. This reputation was first given to them when they released their first notebook; it then got stronger with the release of the first generation iPod, and was further immortalized with the coming of the most sought after phone in recent times, the iPhone. When we all thought Steve Jobs, chairman and CEO of Apple was done surprising us, he surprised us yet again, by announcing the world’s thinnest notebook, the MacBook Air.

Weighing only three pounds and measuring 12.8’’ by 0.76’’, the Air is definitely the best looking notebook ever. But is it just body, and no soul? The answer is no, the MacBook Air comes fully equipped with as much soul as it does body. The Air has a 13.3’’ glossy screen, and comes equipped with the recently released Leopard operating system, which is quite user friendly for even the first time Mac user. As far as the processor goes it comes with a standard Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6 processor which runs at 1.6 GHz. However you have the option to upgrade to 1.8 GHz. Memory is 2GB with a standard 80GB hard drive. One of the latest features on the MacBook is the multi-touch pad which is quite similar to the iPhone’s breakthrough touch screen. With this multi-touch pad you can rotate, drag, or do many other actions simply with the touch of a finger. One of my favorite features on a Mac is the built-in iSight camera which is ideal for chatting, or even picture taking. The only con to this marvelous notebook is that living up to its “thin” look, Apple had to bump off the CD/DVD drive and provide this crucial feature as an external USB based drive. I find this one con quite astonishing, because on previous MacBook models this CD/DVD drive is so thin already. Why not use the same one on the Air?

Overall Apple indeed lives up to its reputation with the newly released MacBook Air. This notebook is ideal for those who want an easy to carry laptop that packs as much punch in both looks and content department. The MacBook Air starts off at $1799 and will be available in the end of January.
